Who We Are

Mackenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums of Iowa is an all-volunteer, non-profit, bagpipe and drum band located in the Des Moines, Iowa metro area. The band supports first responders, fire departments, law enforcement, and active and reserve military units. We perform at events supporting these groups, and at other local events and parades.

Here is a little bit about the Mackenzie Highlanders of Iowa, as featured in the "People of Polk County" video series, December 23, 2021

"In this edition of People of Polk County, we meet a group of [Polk County] employees who spend their spare time performing a unique art form... Bagpipes. Learn how this craft benefits festivals and members of law enforcement and the military."

Our History

Organized in 1978, the Mackenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums of Iowa was founded by a former Canadian WWII bagpiper,

Book Us

The hauntingly beautiful music of the bagpipes is suited for many types of events. We are honored to play for parades, troop departures, military and line-of-duty memorial services and the like. We are also available for birthday and retirement parties, and other special events.
